Providence House, Ohio's first licensed crisis nursery, offers emergency shelter
to children newborn through five years old actively living in crisis. Since 1981,
Providence House has provided quality, center-based, family focused residential
care to over 5,000 infants and children in crisis.
Our services are focused on protecting at risk children, preventing child abuse
and neglect and preserving fragile families. Nearly 200 children are served through
our programs each year. Children are referred to Providence House by more than 25
community agencies, including area hospitals, drug treatment centers and women's shelters.
Our programs and services are designed to offer families a voluntary alternative to safely
remove their child from crisis and provide a safe, loving haven with quality early
childcare services while offering support to the family through innovative programming,
focused on Family Preservation.
Providence House offers a round-the-clock crisis intervention program that provides an
immediate placement solution for infants and toddlers newborn through age 5 in situations
where they are at risk of abuse or neglect. They are referred to Providence House as a
first step in crisis prevention, intervention and resolution. At Providence House children
find a safe haven in a home-like setting, in virtually all placements BEFORE abuse or neglect
occur, while partner community organizations work with us to stabilize the family crisis or
find alternative long-term care for the children.
Providence House was created for the sole purpose of caring for innocent children in
crisis with a goal of providing high-quality, responsive and compassionate services
to infants, toddlers, preschoolers and their families. We care for at risk babies and
children while working closely with referral agencies to address the needs of the parent
or caregiver and attempt to resolve the crisis in the family that is placing these vulnerable
young children at risk. Our goal is to place a healthy, thriving child into a healthy,
healed family.
As a private, 501c3 non-profit agency, Providence House is 95% privately funded.
"We take responsibility for children who have no one else to do it... the responsibility of providing a temporary home, food, clothing and most of all - loving care."
