Currently, there are two types of positions available: Business Manager and Childcare Provider

 

Business Manager - one opening

  • Responsibilities include: all accounting functions, including PR, monthly closing and reporting, and HR and Facilities managemen
  • Minimum requirements includ: undergraduate degree (preferable accounting major), 5+ years of experience in accounting, good Excel spreadsheet skills, and ability to multi-task
  • Knowledge of Raiser Edge and Financial Edge software a plus along with experience in a nonprofit

Part-time Childcare Provider (weekdays) – one opening

  • Hours are 4 pm to 9 pm, Monday through Thursday
  • The rate of pay will be between $8.50 and $10.50 an hour.  This position does not come with benefits, but does qualify for overtime and some paid time off – if you would work more than 40 hours in a week, you’d be paid at time and a half for any hours over 40 that you work that week.

On-Call Childcare Provider – two openings (one person available daytime hours, one person overnight hours)

  • Hours are determined on an as needed basis – you may be asked ahead of time to fill in on a particular shift, or you may be called at the last minute if someone calls off for their shift
  • Some weeks you may work close to 40 hours, while others you may work just one 5 hour shift
  • Ideal candidate is very flexible and gets along well with a diverse group of co-workers
  • One candidate willing to work the following shifts: Mon-Thurs, 7a to 5p; Mon-Thurs, 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm; Fri-Sun, 7 am to 7 pm
  • Second candidate willing to work the following shifts: Mon-Thurs, 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm; Mon-Thurs, 9pm to 7am; Fri-Sun, 7 pm to 7 am

Our highly trained childcare staff members provide a safe, healthy, loving, and nurturing environment, which fosters physical, emotional, and social development in our children. 

Qualified applicants must be at least 21 years of age and:

  • Have at least a high school diploma or GED certificate - preference is given to candidates with Associates or Bachelors degrees in early childhood education, social work, or other related fields. 
  • Have at least one year of experience working with children in a day care or residential setting - preference is given to candidates with more experience.
  • 70 hours of training within the first year is required and is provided by Providence House. 

Selected candidates must also participate in pre-employment background, medical, and drug screenings prior to hire.

At Providence House, we depend upon our volunteers to support our children, our events, and an array of projects and services throughout the year.  We invite you to help the babies and children of Providence House . . . with the gift of your time, talent & energy!

 

 

Childcare Volunteer: (back to positions menu)

  • Interested childcare volunteers must be at least 21 years of age, and be able to commit to a weekly volunteer shift of 2 or 3 hours (9:30 am to 12:30 pm, 3 pm to 6 pm, or 6 pm to 8 pm); shifts are filled all 7 days of the week.  In addition, they must complete documentation required by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS), including a volunteer application, three positive references, medical statements, TB test, and an FBI and Ohio BCII background check. Volunteers must also meet the training requirements set forth by ODJFS in compliance with our licensure (52 hours of training within the first year of service), including CPR and First Aid certification (can be obtained within 6 months of the start of volunteering).  Volunteers provide support to the childcare staff through direct work with the children, and through completion of laundry, meal preparation, and light cleaning tasks.

Administrative Support: (back to positions menu)

  • Individuals and groups are needed at various times – especially around the holidays! - to help with internal mass mailings, special projects, and greeting/receiving donors at the door.
  • Individuals can also assist with administrative duties such as filing, answering phones, making copies, assisting with data entry and meeting preparation.

  • Many volunteers are needed to build community awareness and host successful events at Providence House.  Below are annual events where volunteers are needed:

  • Business Consultants – corporate professionals occasionally need to provided consultation on areas unfamiliar to the non-profit sector; i.e. earned income ventures, special IT projects, strategic initiatives, market research, etc.

  • Non-trustee committee members are valuable resources on Providence House board committees.  Specific areas of focus currently include; government relations, fund development, strategic planning/business transformation, earned income ventures, governance/succession.

Done in a Day Projects: (back to positions menu)

  • Landscaping Projects - There are two main properties which require constant care and upkeep.  We like to do a big Spring and Fall cleanup of the properties along with weekly maintenance throughout the year including lawn mowing, mulching, edging, weeding, leaf cleanup and minor gardening
  • Playground Cleanup - The playground at Leo’s house needs monthly cleaning.  All toys are disinfected, repaired and old toys are replaced
  • Painting Projects - There are interior and exterior areas which require either touch up work or need to be entirely re-painted. Typical projects consist of painting a room/porch or touching up numerous rooms with a high volume of activity.  Occasional mural opportunities.
  • Gift in Kind Inventory - Count and Organization - Groups help count donated items or items already in inventory for supply level and auditing purposes.  Items can include food, clothing, toys, cleaning supplies and hygiene products
  • Attic Clean up - Groups sort through inventory and storage items to determine if items should be kept or channeled to other agencies.

Onsite Events: (back to positions menu)

  • Providence House can provide your company with speakers and a Providence House display for an onsite event for a wish list day collection, fundraiser or volunteer awareness, or brown bag lunch dialog on a range of issues related to child welfare and child abuse prevention

Student Volunteerism: (back to positions menu)

  • Student Service Program
  • The service learning program is available as a three or four day experience depending on availability and is open to Junior and Senior High School students who wish to experience the many facets of working in a non-profit ogranization. Students are engaged series of activities in every department of the agency in a program that begins at 10am and ends at 4pm each day weekday. Transportation to and from Providence House is required. Highlights of the program include:
  1. An in-depth orientation of the programming and services provided at Providence House
  2. Serving a meal to the children and/or attending a family meal on site (Please note that interaction with the children will not extend beyond this activity)
  3. Researching grant and funding opportunities for the agency
  4. Developing educational activities for the children to be administered by our professional childcare staff
  5. Assisting Special Events and Sponsorship Manager with mailings, event prep and other projects as necessary

  • Student Done in a Day/Special Projects
  • seasonal opportunities to work in small groups on projects such as Pinwheels installation in April for Pinwheels for Prevention, Gift in Kind donated goods sorting and counting during the holidays, special craft or educational “kit” projects for future use by the Providence House children

      intership_title

      Providence House internships are unpaid appointments and are available in the Development or Social Work Departments. These positions provide an excellent foundation for future careers in social work or development-related careers.

      Interns work within a specific, assigned area and also interact with our executive, administrative, case management and development professionals.
