Erica referred herself to Providence House due to her own medical crisis, because she wanted help meeting her children’s needs during her treatment and recovery.
While her children stayed at Providence House the family trauma screening revealed a complex trauma history for all family members. Erica was eager to work toward understanding her own symptoms and how her family’s trauma exposure was affecting her parenting and her children’s wellbeing. Providence House helped link the children to early childhood mental health services and Erica worked to establish care for herself, especially surrounding divorce and the death of one of her children. In her parenting classes, she focused on strengthening the attachment she had with her three children, having empathy for their feelings and experiences, and encouraging them as they grow and develop. Erica has participated in the Aftercare Program and maintained stable housing. She completed her education program for phlebotomy and the children have day care when their mom is in her phlebotomy externship.
