Jasmine, a single mother, sought support from Providence House when she and her daughter were homeless.
While we provided emergency shelter and cared for her daughter, Jasmine connected with our social workers to establish goals for her family stability. Through case management sessions, we learned that she did not have a copy of her family’s birth certificates which prevented her from qualifying for a number of benefits programs. Providence House was able to obtain birth certificates for Jasmine and her child, and then used them to acquire their social security cards. These identifying documents made it possible for Jasmine to submit applications for job and housing opportunities. She could also apply for income assistance to help support her family’s basic needs like food, child care and rent. With coordination from Providence House, Jasmine had the assistance she needed to purchase birth certificates and take many steps towards her goals of self-sufficiency. Before reuniting with her daughter, she was able to secure independent housing, employment, and is currently enrolled in the Providence House Aftercare Program for ongoing support.
