Stephanie sought admission to the Providence House Pediatric Nursery for her 2-year old daughter who was diagnosed with a serious heart condition. A domestic violence incident necessitated a move from her current housing to a safer location where her perpetrator could not locate her. Stephanie was understandably anxious about seeking out of home care for her daughter due to the high level of consistent and safe care, nutritional support, and medical appointment coordination required to attend to her congenital heart defect. During the time that her family was engaged with Providence House, Stephanie was able secure employment, apply for day care vouchers for a center that can manage her daughter’s medical needs, obtain safe housing with family until she could move into her new home, and received trauma services including a screening and assessment and a referral to a community-provider in her neighborhood. Her daughter also received consistent care and attention, a healthy diet required for her diagnosis, and she attended all her medical appointments to monitor her recovery from two open heart surgeries. Today, the family is still involved with Providence House through our Aftercare Program.
