Press Release - WTAM & Cleveland Guardians to Host "Stuff the Truck" Event for Providence House

Posted June 23, 2022 in Press Releases

Newsradio WTAM 1100 and The Cleveland Guardians are teaming up to host a special “Stuff the Truck” donation drive this Friday, June 24 to benefit Providence House, a non-profit organization focused on family preservation and supporting children and families through crisis.

The Stuff the Truck event will take place from 5 am to 8 pm in Gateway Plaza between Progressive Field and Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse where WTAM will be broadcasting live with Mike Snyder and Bloomdaddy throughout the day. A truck donated by Berea Moving and Storage will be on-site for local companies and members of the community to drop off essential needs items for the children and families of Providence House. The list of items can be found at provhouse.org/stuffthetruck.
Between 5 am and 3 pm, donations can be driven up to the truck at Gateway Plaza by entering from Ontario Street. From 3 pm to 8 pm, the area will be closed to vehicular traffic, but donations can be dropped off on foot - so anyone headed to the Guardians game can participate on their way into Progressive Field!

Karen Dolan, Providence House Board Member and longtime champion, and Natalie A. Leek, President and CEO of Providence House, will be on-site throughout the day greeting donors and sharing the impact of the community’s generosity. The donated items will be used by Providence House at its West Campus Crisis Nursery in Ohio City and distributed to families working with the organization across Greater Cleveland.

Karen and Paul Dolan, Chairman and CEO of the Guardians, are co-chairs of the Providence House Giving Hope for the PHuture East Campus expansion project. Providence House is currently building a new Crisis Nursery on Cleveland’s East Side to help address an increase in the need for its services. The new East Campus will allow Providence House to serve over 240 additional children and 400 additional families every year.

All are invited to help Stuff the Truck and make a difference in the lives of children and families in our community!

About Providence House

Providence House was founded in 1981 as a safe haven for children whose families were experiencing a crisis and has since evolved into a multi-generational program that embraces and supports the entire family. Providence House has served more than 13,300 children and families in its 41-year history. Provide House:

  • Protects children by providing for their physical, emotional, developmental, and educational needs. Offers free, voluntary (non-custodial) 24/7 emergency shelter to children newborn through age 12 who are at risk of maltreatment.
  • Support families by connecting them to resources, cultivating nurturing practices, and encouraging responsibility. Providence House offers individualized parent education, counseling, case management, trauma services, and Aftercare to support long-term family stability.
  • Strengthen communities by advocating for underserved families and demonstrating the lasting impact of prevention. Providence House collaboratively partners with over 130 public and private service providers to link families to community support, treatment, and therapies.

The infants and children who come to Providence House are primarily from economically disadvantaged families in approximately 30 zip codes throughout the Greater Cleveland area. Of the families served last year, 90% were living at or below the Federal Poverty Line. 100% of children admitted to the crisis nursery program were reunited with their families.
In addition to the crisis nursery program, Providence House also offers community-based services, including a Community Education and Resiliency Program that offers parent education, case management, and trauma services, and a Community Referral Program that provides basic needs items to families through referrals from partner agencies.
